Luke's 2nd Birthday Party

I know I am ridiculously late in posting this, but I wanted to share some pictures! We were going to have Luke's party at Prime Time (arcade, play ground, etc) but 3 days before party day they called and told me they were moving me from the private party room I had reserved 3 months earlier because of remodeling. They were going to move me to one big party room that had 4-5 themed corners. This prego Momma was not happy and I let them know it! I ended up canceling our reservation and hosting the party at our house.

Then the horrible weather came... it had iced and snowed the whole week before Luke's party. So I wasn't sure if people were going to be able to make it. Then there was the fact that at my OBGYN appointment the week before, I was already dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced! Between the weather and the party I was crossing my legs like crazy!

We ended up having an intimate party and Luke didn't know any difference. And Parker waited to make his debut! Here are a few pictures of the party...

My objective with everything was to make it simple since there was a baby coming anytime!
I cut colored card stock into squares and cut out the letters on my cricut. I found the Mickey Mouse clipart online then cut it out. I also attached coordinating ribbon in between each square.

I covered boxes with plastic tablecloths and wrapped ribbon around them. I used edible Mickey sugar decorations from Michaels and got the Mickey candle at Michaels as well.

Since we decided not to use Prime Time so close to the day of the party, I just threw some snacks together. I wrapped silverware in white and black polka dot napkins from Hobby Lobby and tied red ribbon around them. The yellow square plates were from Oriental Trading Company.

We even got to use snow to ice down the drinks! :)

Happy 2nd Birthday to my baby boy!

Hawaii 5-0 Birthday Party

My Dad and sister-in-law's Dad have really close birthdays and they both happen to be turning 50 this year. We thought it would be fun to do a double birthday party like we did when they were turning 40. So we came up with a Hawaii 5-0 theme. The dads wanted a small, family party so I didn't go quite as far over board like I usually do. :)

Because I'm almost 36 weeks, Jonathan and I decided that it would be best if I didn't travel the 5 hour trip to Palestine for the party. I was so sad to not get to see everything put together in person. But my party elves did a great job setting everything up!

We got leis from Oriental Trading for everyone to wear.

I made a "Hawaii 5-0" banner using my cricut and hung it with regular curling ribbon.

I saw these fun topiaries at Hostess with the Mostess.

I got the topiary foam from Hobby Lobby, wrapped the stands with curling ribbon and put them in flower pots covered with chalkboard paint. I ordered the parasols off of Amazon and when I opened the box there were lots of reds and pinks, decent amount of blue and orange, about 5 yellow and no green. My original plan was to to use blue, orange and green but you can't always predict how many of each color you'll get. So I made due with just blue and orange parasols and used the green ribbon.

We used blue table cloths, lime green plates and cups (from Walmart), orange silverware and blue and green napkins.

The menu was pretty simple and not too Hawaiian. There was a make your own skewer station, chips and dips and cake.

For entertainment and games, I picked out a few games from NBC's show Minute to Win It. Mainly because I thought it would be hilarious to watch our dads try to complete some of those challenges! They are great for parties and have all the video instructions at their website.

I heard they had a great time and the games did not disappoint when it came to entertainment! Now I'm just waiting for Luke's 2nd birthday party in two weeks and Parker's arrival the week after (hopefully)!

Mommy's Party Blog

So I decided to start a new blog all about parties... parties I've done, upcoming parties and party ideas to lock away. I'm hoping this blog will be a way to keep all of my ideas somewhat organized.

So to start off with a look back at some of my most recent parties.

My son, Luke, turned 1 in February. I didn't really want to do a "themey" birthday so I decided on bright colors and polka dots. Here's the link to his birthday post on our family blog.

My most recent party was in May for my husband, Jonathan's, graduation party. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with his doctorate in Applied Mathematics. Yea, we don't talk about his work a lot at home! :) I wanted to do a fun party that incorporated all kinds of math stuff (equations for table numbers, pencil centerpieces & math terms for food names). Here's the link to that party.

My next big project will be to move to Abilene in August. But we recently found out that Baby Mitchell #2 is on their way so I'm rolling some Baby Reveal Party ideas over in my head! :)

And then because I'm too much of a planner... I'm already working on a small 50th Birthday party for my dad. The theme you ask? Hawaii 5-0! Can't wait to put that one together!

So there's a look into my most recent parties and some to come. Hope you'll check back soon!
